ABOUT

I am a freelance costumer, designer and academic, with almost 20 years experience working in theatre, both classic and modern dance, opera, circus, contemporary performance and film around Australia and in the UK.

Some of my recent design credits include Arcadia for Brisbane Festival 2016, PreHistoric, Miracle in Brisbane,  and Bright Lights, Big City in London. I have been involved with productions for the Queensland Theatre Company, Queensland Ballet, Opera Queensland, Kite Theatre Company, and La Boite Theatre Company and worked as Expressions Dance Company's Wardrobe Coordinator for several years, as well as numerous other independent and festival projects. Equally comfortable behind a sewing machine, sourcing and shopping, building something outrageous or balancing a budget other career highlights include A Christmas Carol for Queensland Theatre Company, BoomBah! for Windmill Theatre Company and The Tragedy of King Richard III for The Good Room/ La Boite Theatre.

I am a Lecturer in Fashion at Queensland University of Technology, and recently completed a PhD at the University of Melbourne. My PhD research focused on collaboration in design realisation, looking at contemporary costume practice. Other research interests include sustainability and digital gift economies, technical production’s interpersonal dynamics, and fashion and clothing practices. I am a co-director of The Stitchery Collective, a design collective focused on alternative modes of engaging with fashion.

I am currently writing a book about costume technician’s creative and emotional labour based on my most recent research.
